The isolation of the US in the UN Security Council – casting the lone no vote against an immediate humanitarian ceasefire – should be a stark warning to Canada on the moral hazard of failing to support a ceasefire now.
The only way to avoid further untold civilian deaths and injuries in Gaza and to ensure the resumption of vital, life-saving humanitarian aid – two objectives the US says it shares – is for an immediate truce resumption which leads to a permanent ceasefire.
With a fragile humanitarian truce in place to allow for hostage and prisoner releases and somewhat increased aid to flow into Gaza, we must continue to call on our government to exert every effort for a full ceasefire now.
We all have a role to play in demanding that the Government of Canada support an immediate ceasefire and take other urgent actions to help stop the Gaza carnage and to secure the release and return of hostages. There is no military solution to this conflict.
